Katherine Viney is a visual artist and graphic designer.
Katherine Viney (she/her) is a Brisbane (Meanjin) artist.
In 2022, she received a Diploma of Graphic Design with an award winning portfolio from a prestigious Australian art school*. She now owns and operates a successful (bad) portraiture business full-time.
Katherine doesn't believe in the "inner child". She does, however, believe in the "outer child", who navigates life uncertain as to how and when their legs got so long. She harnesses this joy and whimsey in her art, and elevates it further by exploiting her adult privileges**. Her work feels as if she is getting away with something, like two children in a trench coat who snuck into a movie they weren't supposed to see***.
Katherine's practice is grounded in creative play. From traditional painting to furniture construction, no medium is safe from her fast and loose methods. Her favourite colour scheme is bouncy castle and her favourite subject is ducks.
Her art is accessible to all, including current and former children.
She also dislikes writing in the third person.
*TAFE
**this sounds dirty but it's not - my favourite adult privileges include using sharp tools unsupervised, reckless spending and eating whatever I want for breakfast.
***again this is not dirty, I mean like a PG movie but without parental guidance
